The role of blacksmith at
Amberley was in place long before the Museum.
The original means
of transporting chalk and lime around the quarry
site was by horse and cart, and a blacksmith was
vital to ensure horses were adequately shod and
other repairs could be carried out on site.
These days blacksmith do not shoe horses
as it has become a separate craft since cars
became commonly used.
