Tilly Leaf Carrigan

Tilly has been
the resident potter at Amberley
museum since 2006. She produces a
wide range of hand thrown functional
domestic ware made from Earthenware
clay. She uses slip and traditional
techniques such as slip trailing and
sgrafitto to decorate. When you
visit the pottery you will find a
selection of handmade cups, jugs,
plaques, candle holders, colinders,
dishes, garlic stores, named mugs
and more for sale. Commissions are
also welcome if you cannot find what
you are looking for.
Tilly also
produces sculptural stoneware which
is built using the ancient technique
of coiling. These pieces are sold
to decorate the home, garden or
place of work. They are usually
smoke fired which produces unique
and interesting decoration.
When the
weather is warm Tilly runs a clay
activity where children and adults
alike can take a piece of clay and
model their own creations outside.
This gives the public some hands on
experience with the material and for
a small donation you can take what
you make home. The pieces are not
fired and children must be
supervised.
Depending what
stage the ware which Tilly is
working on is at, you may find her
decorating, handling or if you are
lucky enough you will see her
throwing on the wheel! Due to the
fact that Tilly Leaf Pottery is a
working pottery business,
demonstrations must fit work in
progress. If you want to
specifically visit the pottery
please phone in advance to make sure
that it is open.
Get creative in our
one to one
throwing.
