The Stickmaker is one of the main features here at Amberley.
Aan impressive array of skills and techniques have been developed over the years, and the Stickmaker will use these to considerable effect for his many customers.

Walking sticks can be made out of a wide range of materials, each of which requires an unique approach by a craftsperson to achieve the best result. In making his walking sticks, the Stickmaker uses a variety of materials such as hazel, holly, ash, chestnut & blackthorn (the favourite wood) in making the sticks, and burr elm, antler & horn for handles.

The Stickmaker can be seen in his workshop at Amberley throughout the season, with samples of his wares proudly on show. Always happy to answer questions on his work, and to talk people through the numerous stages involved, the craft seems an almost hypnotic draw for many visitors to Amberley - come and see for yourselves...
