This building is a replica of a ironmonger's shop in the early 20th century.
Shops like this sold a wide range of items for the home and garden. During the Victorian period ironmonger’s shops flourished. As new inventions like gas lighting, electrical equipment, bicycles and typewriters appeared, shopkeepers quickly added them to their ever increasing range of products.

A reminder of old goods

In the 20th century, the upheaval caused by the two world wars and the increasing growth of department and other large stores led to a decrease in ironmonger’s shops. Despite this decline, the ironmonger’s shop is still a familiar sight in many towns and cities today and continues to provide a service to the local
community.
