The Museum has a collection of working stationary engines on show.
The collection of stationary engines shows their development from early horizontal open-crank designs to the vertical enclosed varieties of later years.


Bygone sources of power...


Many engines are in operation around the Museum as well as in the Stationary Engine Shed. Outside the shed is a large single-cylinder Tangye gas engine. The Municipal Engine House (which can be viewed using the menu to the left) also contains a number of stationary engines.
