The Rural Telephone Exchange at Amberley is a typical 1930's design.
It is built to a design typical of those erected by the General Post Office during that era.

Past telecommunication

It contains UAX 13 telephone equipment which was originally installed at nearby Coolham in 1940. This working exchange provides an internal telephone system for the Museum, and its demonstration enables visitors to see how the electro-mechanical selectors respond to dialling numbers.

Interestingly, the exchange has been used for a number of filming opportunities, ranging from period dressing (ie fill-in shots for programmes) to documentaries and news reports.
