Amberley Museum, founded in 1979, is located in the South Downs National Park, West Sussex. We preserve rural, transport, industrial and communications history in a 36 acre former chalk pits and lime works, welcoming around 50,000 visitors pa, including 2,000 school children. We organise some 30 events every year, from classic cars and miniature steam to Steam Punk, with children’s activities during school holidays. We have a small dedicated professional staff and rely heavily on 250 regular volunteers, who run the narrow-gauge steam railway and vintage bus service daily, look after collections and interact with visitors. This is an exciting and challenging time for us, as, having successfully overcome the challenges of Covid last year, we have ambitious plans to grow and prosper during the next few years.
We are looking to strengthen and widen our Board membership and would like to hear from individuals with a wide range of experience and perspectives. Diversity is important to us and we would encourage applications from a broad spectrum of people. We are looking for Trustees with a passion for heritage and the ability to think strategically, assess opportunities and manage risk, provide oversight of staff and volunteers, and with experience in any of the public, private, or voluntary sectors.
Time commitment: Up to six to eight meetings per year (evening) plus potential involvement in Committee work and special projects. Trustees would be also expected to attend and represent the Museum at partnership events, meetings and functions.
