BLACKSMITH

Today, home to our blacksmith, Alex Smith, of Chalk Pit Forge, this building was once the home of the chalk pit smith. Built around 1900, and in use until the 1960s, this forge was used to shoe the horses, mend carts and any other odd jobs around the pits.

Today Alex is often to be found working the forge, either creating works on commission or teaching. Alex has a BA as an Artist blacksmith and has been a blacksmith since 1998.

“Being a blacksmith allows you to make anything, from tools to staircases”

Alex is available for projects small and large and for personal lessons in blacksmithing. He is frequently at the Museum demonstrating to visitors. Please give Alex a call or get in touch via the website below.
