1980s Weekend
27-28 July 2024
Transport yourself back in time to the raddest decade of them all!
Join us for an epic 80’s weekend at Amberley Museum filled with nostalgia, excitement, and hands-on fun for the entire family on 27-28 July.
Amberley Museum, nestled in the heart of the South Downs National Park, will transform into a vibrant celebration of the 1980s. This two-day event promises to transport you back in time with an array of 80’s memorabilia, interactive exhibits, and demonstrations.
Event Highlights:
- Retro gaming:
Test your gaming skills on some 1980s games consoles with Gaming Retro-bution.
- 80s Nostalgia:
Explore objects from across the museum with our self-led trail highlighting everything from the Yuppie ‘brick’ phone to a ZX Spectrum. Find out more about 1980s inventions from the worlds of printing, telecommunications and broadcasting, with our knowledgeable volunteers.
- Vehicle Displays:
See a spectacular showcase of cars, cycles, motorbikes, and other vehicles from the 1980s. Take a ride on a 1980s-era bus or behind one of our 1980s diesel locos. And look out for the Sinclair C5 in action!
- 1980s Memories:
Visit the Telephonic Youth project to see telephones and memorabilia from British Telecom’s collections, before trying your hand at children’s quizzes and games produced by BT in the 1980s.
- Hands-On:
Get involved with our family trail on an espionage theme, put yourself in the picture with our free-play TV screen and take the Rubik’s cube challenge!
- Come say hello to your friendly neighbourhood Ghostbusters!
The Sussex Ghostbusters are a costumed charity fundraising team serving the county of Sussex, UK. They are officially recognised by Ghost Corps as an official Ghostbusters franchise.
