AUTUMN INDUSTRIAL TRAINS

17th October 2021

The final Railway event of the year…

Industrial Trains Day is a showcase of trains from the Museum’s collection running along the narrow-gauge track in a coordinated, choreographed working day.

This event is run entirely by the Rail Volunteers who will be ensuring there is plenty of action for you to watch.

What can visitors see and do at this event?

There will be four trains running on the tracks, two passenger trains and two industrial trains made up from the Museum’s comprehensive collection of wagons.

One of the passenger trains will be pulled by a diesel locomotive, either ‘Peldon’ or the Baguley Drewry. Wheelchair accommodation is available on this train.

The second passenger train will see the return of one of our more unusual trains, the petrol-powered Wickham Railcars.

Watch and photograph a selection of our industrial locomotives haul our historic wagons around the Museum’s narrow-gauge railway.

To capture that extra special shot, make sure you stand up on our ‘Ranger Bridge’ to get a view from above the tracks.

See the return to service of the Hudson Hunslet locomotive that formerly worked at the local Thakeham Tiles Works near Storrington, the engine problems have been diagnosed and repaired.

Our industrial monorail system will be demonstrated throughout the day. ‘Burt’, our diesel locomotive, similar to the engine that worked at the chalk pits on the standard gauge railway in the 1950s, will also be in action.

Talk to the Railway Volunteers about the history of the Amberley railway or about volunteering in the Rail Group and don’t forget to visit Billingshurst Signal Box, which will be open.

One of our Vintage Southdown buses will be running to carry passengers around the site.
